Overgrown

Like leaves fallen from a tree

Like vines crawling against a wall

Like a moss over a tree

My pain has multiplied

my heart has grieved

and cried

my thoughts have swirled about uncontrollably

my hope has dwindled

the world has darkened

Hidden by so many cruel moments

so many harsh words

so many days of hurt

Can I find my way out of the overgrowth?

Can I find something to look forward to in the middle of this overwhelming flood?

Can you reverse what has happened?

Can I forget?

Will you forget?

What will we remember?

What will we carry forward?

Can we be saved?

You want us to be

I wonder if I do

I want to say I do

I want to come running back into your arms

I want the love to outgrow the pain

But I’m scared

I’m scared of what happens if it doesn’t.

What if it doesn’t?

What will become of us then?
