We Are All Stories in The End

Just make it a good one, eh?

Your story here? Image created with MidJourney by author.

The title and subtitle are shamelessly stolen quotes from one of my favorite fictional characters: The Doctor.

I try my best to live by these words. We are all creators of our personal stories, and although there are many co-creators in the wholeness of our life, in the end, we are the ones in control of our actions and reactions and the plot line, within some boundary settings.

We might not control all that happens to us — far from — but we can practice how we think about it, feel about and in the end — the story that we create about it.

When we react to the world with love and compassion, courage and self-care, vulnerability and authenticity, the world will in the end feel lighter and better. You will create better stories for yourself.

Not implying that you should be positive and happy all of the time. I myself do like to dwell on my dark personality as well. One might say, that reading sappy romance all of the time might get a little bit boring, so why not treat yourself with a little dark fantasy or a little mystery? Embrace the uncertainty of a happy ending and the endless possibilities of your storyline unfolding before you.

No prince on a white horse or no princess to save? Not to worry, write a different story.

Our identity is made of all of those stories that we tell ourselves throughout our life. There are plot twists when life throws unexpected changes at us. How do we choose to react? Perhaps there is a different way? A hidden opportunity?

Perhaps we need to embrace the darkness of the protagonist, a shadow part of ourselves because there is usually a thin line between good and bad. Maybe you just haven’t yet read and understood the complete series of side stories by the other characters yet.

Everyone has an interesting story to read. Everyone started as a short novel, expanding their story into a complex world- and character building, plot twists, disappointment, defeat, successes, major defining moments, endless interactions and dialogs, that thereafter continue in their heads, sleepless nights, heartbreaks, dreams, fears and chapters that ended and new ones began.

Everyone is continuously writing their story, and your life becomes the story that you tell yourself. What you keep repeating will become your most-read plot, but it’s never too late to write a new chapter and create your own plot twist.
