Hello World for Sandcastle

I always remember the very first time I hold my farther’s business card. It was when he got a huge promotion and wanted to share it with his family. When I was little, I am so confused by his excitement. For me, it is just a piece of paper. When I get older, I gradually understand my father’s excitement. A business card is not only a form of advertisement for a person but professional interactions around people. For my father, this is proof of his hard work paid off. The connections and meanings pass on through business cards are one of the reasons that in this digital age business cards are still important in the industry.

Speaking of human interactions, nowadays most people have access to social media. People are all link together. Though there are so many things in the world wanting to use the power of social media to connect people for business purposes, they still can’t replace the use of business cards. As a girl who is about to step in the industry world, I have been more and more curious about how such a traditional tool can be paired with nowadays technology, such as social media, and help people around the world better connect.

Our team is currently trying to come up with the idea that a digital business card that can replace a traditional business card. With the digital business card, there come with a website that works as social media but still lies on the professional side.

Before I am pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Cornell Tech, I researched several topics of natural language processing(NLP). NLP has been widely used on so many well-known social media websites. NLP can do content-based recommendations, toxic detection, emotion detection, sentiment analysis, stance prediction, ad recommendation, and many other useful things to help a community to thrive. I believe it is possible to utilize NLP technology and paired with a traditional business card to strengthen connections between strangers or acquaintances to increase the quality of teamwork and therefore create more interesting technology around the world for the future.
