Melbourne Locals is a body of work focused towards fashion within Melbourne. The fashion depicted in the images are not specific to one style of fashion, as Melbourne locals are so diverse with their fashion sense. I wanted to show this range of style to The Locals global audience while giving some insight on how the people of Melbourne approach their looks leading into the colder seasons. No high end, expensive brands are on display as I chose to focus on brands and accessories that are affordable to the average fashionista. A shallow depth of field and low contrast where the first noticeable aesthetics from the images on The Locals website from all sections off the world. I travelled around the CBD trying to find individuals who seemed to have put time and effort into what they were wearing to stand out from the crowd. I had a rocky start to approaching strangers and asking them if I could take their picture but after a couple of shoots I had a little more confidence. This was probably the biggest challenge I faced as I felt rushed to get shots, so I was not bothering the person or taking up too much of their time. On a couple of shoots, I would overthink the shots that I needed and would imagine commercial model shots but this is not The Locals style. So, in the following shoots I kept some images on my phone from The Locals website for reference. The subjects within the photos were found by asking random locals on the streets of Melbourne with some questions following the shoot to get some information on the brands they were wearing. Most people were happy to have their photo taken, while a handful of people did respectively and politely decline to have their photo taken.
