Everything was ready, and in place. Everyone was ready. Well, most everyone. Bree was still whining a bit. “Bree, don’t be such a baby!” Jessica said. She wanted to scream, and slap Bree, but other…

Is Bumble a useful app for business networking? Sharing my personal experience with 14 Days Trial!

When the Bumble app was first launched in 2014, it was the main rival of Tinder — a dating app, in short, designed to help people find a potential date.

It distinguished itself from other dating apps out there in that it only allowed women to make first contact with someone, providing a more comfortable space for women looking to meet a guy.

Why am I talking about using a dating app for business then? Well — the app underwent several expansions, and now has three different modes:

As you can see, then, Bumble Bizz has nothing to do with dating and everything to do with networking — it just takes place on the same platform using similar algorithms.

Using an app just for business networking is something of a novel solution — and a niche with lots of untapped potential. Other than LinkedIn, there are very few digital business networking options in Hong Kong, so I decided to give Bumble Bizz a go.

One of the people I met was a fashion design graduate, who spent 10 hour per day on creating her own collections — her graduation work was even published in Vogue! Our first meeting wasn’t the last, either — we’re planning on working together in her studio, and I’m looking forward to do some personal branding consultation work for her LinkedIn profile and share some outreaching skills with her.

The second meeting was with an e-commerce startup owner, whose entrepreneurial journey began with simply renting his room through Airbnb. We spent a pleasant afternoon discussing different perspectives on business, as well as other topics — like the Hong Kong protest and our newly discovered shared dream of relocating to Singapore.

Networking, even if it doesn’t lead to partnerships or new customers, is an invaluable experience in any profession, but particularly in a field as fluid and broad as digital marketing. Even if you’re not looking to expand your business or connect with investors, it’s worth it just for meeting people to learn different approaches, see things from different perspectives, and explore new possibilities.

So far, the app has enabled me to meet several highly interesting professionals — honestly, I never imagined that what’s known as a ‘dating app’ can be transformed into such a powerful business networking tool!

Has anyone used Bumble for business? What’s your experience in using the app for professional networking? Looking forward to reading your comments!
